3601 Lawton Street: From Gas Station to Residential Hub
What is now a gas station and auto repair shop will soon be transformed into an 8-story residential building featuring 46 apartments. Of these, 10 units will be designated as affordable housing, with 4 for moderate-income residents and 6 for very low-income households. The project’s approval has been expedited by leveraging several state housing bills, including Senate Bill 423, which allows for increased density and faster approval timelines.
1360 43rd Avenue: Shirley Chisholm Village
Just half a mile away, construction is nearing completion on Shirley Chisholm Village at 1360 43rd Avenue. This 135-unit development is the first 100% affordable housing project in San Francisco specifically for educators and city employees. It’s a groundbreaking initiative, and the city has already announced two additional affordable housing projects for SFUSD employees: one at 750 Golden Gate Avenue and another at 2205 Mission Street. These developments represent a major step forward in supporting those who help sustain the city’s infrastructure and community.
